Capable of wielding swords, bows, and shields, these Genma tend to attack in groups. They are driven purely by their basal urges to kill and devour people.
Bestiary
Genma
Genma are underworld fiends drawn into Kyoto by Malice. Capcom’s enemy heading says they usually dwell in the lowest depths of hell, and the Malice enveloping the capital brought them into the world of the living. The published street roster is eight: Hitotsume Gasa, Byakue, Kubi Akari, Chijiko, Kogashira, Togemaru, Oboro Garasu, and Dohatsu-ten. Formidable foes such as Daidara and Shuten Doji are Genma too, but they sit on the boss list. This page is the rank-and-file board.
Byakue
An immensely destructive Genma, possessing unfathomable strength that allows it to swing its giant axe with great ease. The more stained in its own blood it becomes, the greater its power grows.
Kubi Akari
A strange, floating Genma variant, whose skin has a pale-bluish hue. They consume the floating souls that Musashi needs for his gauntlet, and puff up before firing blasts of energy at their prey. Despite their diminutive size, they should not be underestimated.
Chijiko
A Genma created by Dokyo. A grotesque mass of stitched together faces and elastic tentacles.
Kogashira
A parasitic Genma that puppets a human host, enhanced by the souls it has consumed. It releases Malice, which can bolster other Genma nearby.
Togemaru
A Genma with large spikes running down its back. They charge forward, spinning or rolling at great speeds, to shred anyone unfortunate enough to remain in their path.
Oboro Garasu
A winged, ninja-like Genma variant. They watch Musashi's every move, striking when an opening presents itself. Oboro Garasu employ deadly combination attacks when paired with another. A moment's inattentiveness often marks the end of their quarry's life.
Dohatsu-ten
A Genma that overpowers its enemies with swift movement and deft bladework. It's strengthened further still with every soul it absorbs, and with every drop of Musashi's blood that stains its sword.
Eight street threats with jobs you can see
Hitotsume Gasa come in groups with swords, bows, and shields and exist to kill and devour. Byakue swings a giant axe and grows stronger the more it is stained in its own blood; Serves You Right is the Steam record for defeating the Byakue at Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Kubi Akari are small floating thieves that eat the souls Musashi needs, then puff up and fire energy. Charm: Kubi Akari is named after them, which is a grim joke and a useful reminder to protect soul drops.
Chijiko is Dokyo’s stitched mass of faces and tentacles. Kogashira puppets a human host, is enhanced by eaten souls, and releases Malice that bolsters nearby Genma. Togemaru rolls and spins with a spiked back. Oboro Garasu are winged, ninja-like pair hunters. Dohatsu-ten is a swift swordsman Genma that grows with every soul it absorbs and every drop of Musashi’s blood on its blade.
Genma-ologist is the Steam achievement for collecting all Genma notes. Those notes are in-game collectibles; this page is the official public bestiary, not a datamine. If a name is not on this list or the formidable-foe list, it is not a published roster entry yet.
Souls, notes, and which names are missing
Kubi Akari exist to steal the yellow, blue, and red souls the gauntlet needs. Kill them before you absorb in a crowded yard, or watch the orbs vanish. Byakue at Kiyomizu-dera Temple is the first named street kill with a Steam record. Kogashira’s Malice pulse is the only published way a rank-and-file Genma changes the weather for its neighbors.
Oboro Garasu work in pairs. Dohatsu-ten grows as it drinks souls and as Musashi’s blood hits its sword, which makes long, sloppy fights worse. Togemaru is a rolling hitbox. Chijiko is Dokyo’s stitched experiment and a reminder that the underground lab is a factory, not a single boss room.
