Getting started

Onimusha: Way of the Sword DEMO

The Onimusha: Way of the Sword DEMO is the fastest way to feel Issen before you buy a SKU. Capcom’s English demo page puts you on the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage with parry, deflect, Issen, soul absorption, and an Oni Armament, then a duel with Sasaki Ganryu. An expanded build continues past that duel into a new location and a second boss. Demo save data cannot continue in the full game. Keep the save anyway: Charm: Kubi Akari is the demo bonus, claimed through Settings > Privacy > Demo Bonus and then a Spirit Mirror once those menus unlock.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a famed Kyoto spot whose main hall and stage sit atop a cliff. In this game the encroaching Genma and Malice have twisted that appearance. The demo uses that stage as a teaching ground rather than a tourist walk. You get the core defensive verbs immediately: Parry redirects an attack if you block at the right moment and can slam a foe into a wall or another body; Deflect spends a large chunk of stamina and can return projectiles; a perfectly timed Evade becomes a Reflex Dodge that also shreds stamina.

Issen is available in this slice. Press an attack the moment before an enemy strike lands. It is hard. Capcom’s own copy says those who succeed deal high damage and release more souls. Soul absorption is the other half of the lesson. The gauntlet drinks souls while Musashi can still move, but he is otherwise defenseless, so the demo is already asking you to pick a window rather than hold the absorb input in a crowd.

Sasaki Ganryu closes the first demo. He is also called Sasaki Kojiro. His fate is tied to Musashi’s, and he also wields an Oni Gauntlet. English voice: Tashinga Bepete. Treat the duel as a exam of parry, deflect, and Issen, not as a secret-boss hunt. Official pages omit his health, stamina numbers, and a move list, so this guide stays on parry, deflect, and Issen.

The expanded demo goes past Ganryu

Capcom later updated the demo. Players who already had it installed only needed to update. The new slice takes a step beyond the intense duel that closed the first version, adds a brand-new location, and ends on a fearsome boss. Steam news around that update also pointed at the Genma siblings Ifuu and Burai and at Musashi’s Oni Awakening form in a trailer; the playable expanded demo itself is described as a new map and boss, not as a full Mount Oe clear.

Two limits stay in force after the expansion. It will not be possible to continue from demo save data in the base game. The demo differs in some regards from the full game. PC performance for the demo may differ from the retail build, with no guarantee of compatibility or performance parity. Capcom’s Japanese PC FAQ marks the demo as outside official support and points Steam users at Steam troubleshooting.

Store links for the demo sit on PlayStation, Xbox / Microsoft Store, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. Steam lists the demo as app 3974650 under the parent app 2638890. A separate benchmark tool is not the demo; it is a distinct download used to score a PC before you buy. Do not confuse the two when you are chasing Charm: Kubi Akari.

Claim Charm: Kubi Akari from a kept save

Players who keep hold of their demo save data can claim Charm: Kubi Akari, a charm that grants special effects when equipped. Charms strengthen Miyamoto Musashi. They are not sword skins. Capcom’s claim path is specific: in Settings, open Privacy > Demo Bonus and select Collect Reward. Then access a Spirit Mirror, choose Additional Content (the menu wording varies by SKU), and collect Demo Bonus.

Spirit Mirrors and the Charms section of the Equipment screen unlock separately as the game progresses. You cannot force the charm into an empty inventory at the title screen. After it is claimed, change charms from Main Menu > Equipment > Charms. The same Spirit Mirror later handles Deluxe Kit, Premium Kit, early-purchase cosmetics, and Materials Pack: Red Souls I, so learning this menu in the demo bonus flow pays off in the retail build.

The CAPCOM ID bonus uses the same Spirit Mirror Additional Content list, not the Privacy > Demo Bonus toggle. If you played the demo on one platform and bought the full game on another, remember Capcom’s FAQ: save data cannot be shared or moved across platforms, and Japanese versus overseas add-on content is not interchangeable. Plan the SKU before you grind a demo save you cannot carry.

What to do after the first duel

Finish the Kiyomizu slice, then decide whether to keep the save. The charm is the only published reason to keep it. If you are moving from PlayStation demo to a Windows purchase, the save will not follow you; Capcom’s FAQ is explicit that saves cannot move across platforms. Pick the store you will keep using before you treat the demo as progress.

Combat practice in the demo is the same vocabulary as the full game’s opening hours: parry for Blazing State and wall slams, deflect for returned shots, Issen for damage and extra souls. The Oni Gauntlet page is the next reading stop. Do not expect the demo to teach Oni Awakening, Wind-Whipper setups, or Mount Oe; those sit in the retail campaign and in trailers, not in the first duel file.

If the Windows demo will not start, use the demo FAQ article, not the full-game one. Capcom marks the demo outside official support. Steam troubleshooting is the Steam path. Epic users should meet minimum specs, exclude the folder from antivirus, and skip pre-release Windows builds. The benchmark is a separate 18 GB download and will not grant Kubi Akari.

Frequently asked questions

Does the demo save continue into the full game?

No. Capcom’s demo notes say it will not be possible to continue from your demo save data in the base game. Keep the file anyway if you want Charm: Kubi Akari. After you buy a SKU, collect the reward from Settings > Privacy > Demo Bonus, then finish the claim at a Spirit Mirror under Additional Content once that menu unlocks in the story.

Where do I download the demo?

Use the official demo buttons for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Microsoft Store, Steam (demo app 3974650 on parent 2638890), Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Windows benchmark is a different download on the same PC store pages and will not grant the Kubi Akari charm by itself.
